Uncovering Potential in Classic Co-op Architecture
From sunny LA to a one-bedroom apartment in a prewar co-op building in Lenox Hill. Tricia Brock (director of shows such as Girls, Breaking Bad, and Silicon Valley) came to Agencie to redesign and renovate her New York apartment. It had to be tailored to her unique lifestyle and, above all, to bring in the light. Whilst the apartment’s front windows brought in a wash of light, the rear was a warren of cubbied-off spaces facing a skywell.
We knew that the challenge of working on interior co-op renovations in New York is always the unknown. Antiquated refrigeration-cum-drainage systems. Mysterious plumbing and electrical systems. Surprise chases crisscrossing the building. All were uncovered and dealt with. The space was opened up from choppy, smaller rooms into a cohesive and elegant space, including a sophisticated yet functional chef’s kitchen.
In addition, the reviewing architect was Eliot Glass. This man was characterized by The New York Times as ‘The Man Who Could Ruin Your Renovation Plans’. Drawing on our experience, creativity, and diligence, we avoided unnecessary expense and delay. A lengthy review process and complex construction phase ensured successful completion and a significantly brighter apartment.
