Rye Colonial Revival
Structural Rehabilitation of a Historic Residence
Rye Colonial Revival is a three-story residence originally constructed in the early 1900s on the grounds of a historic country club. The structure required comprehensive rehabilitation, as the existing house was in severely deteriorated condition and all primary systems and framing demanded evaluation and replacement.
The project involved the complete replacement and reinforcement of floor and roof framing to support new programmatic loads, a new historically appropriate façade system, and modern building systems. Selective removals, including the formation of the two-story volume, required careful sequencing and temporary stabilization to maintain the integrity of the structure during construction. The result is a fully renewed structural system that enables the open, light-filled spaces envisioned in the design while meeting current performance and constructability standards.
The reconfiguration of the plan, including the relocation of the kitchen, the introduction of a new primary stair, and the creation of a double-height conservatory, required major structural interventions with new openings, localized strengthening, and the integration of new gravity and lateral load paths within the existing envelope.
