This collaboration with Knoxville-based Kaseman Beckman Architectural Studio (KBAS) has been in the works for some time and is now bearing fruit. The project is a kick-ass façade system for a mixed-use development by Blue Zees Development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Some of you may recall KBAS’ other acclaimed work, specifically the award-winning September 11 Pentagon Memorial.

Williamsburg Passivhaus Corten Steel Facade

The building is a mixed-use development of 2 large penthouses with a commercial space on the ground floor. The project will be certified as a Passive House project and employ continuous insulation throughout the entirety of the building envelope. The residential portion of the building will be airtight, employ high-performance windows to manage solar gain and use a balanced heat and moisture recovery ventilation system. The goal of this project is to accomplish a path to a net zero/net positive building.
